There are a couple. XAudio, which I think we all know is pretty
much dead.
The latest appears to be MAS (Media Application Server).
http://www.mediaapplicationserver.net/
This one has support from X.Org and SAI. It looks pretty powerful
- I have not tried it out yet. I subscribed to their lists some months
ago, and have only ever seen one message, so it does not appear to be too
active (or maybe I just subscribed to the wrong lists).
One thing seems unclear to me - one of the benefits of MAS is
synchronisation to an Xserver. But the implication is that for this to
really work, MAS would need to be implemented as an extension within the
Xserver. This does not seem like such a good idea to me,
implementation-wise...
It would be interesting to know if it would be possible to add
XSYNC extension support into nas, thereby possibly allowing an AV app to
sync with nas and an XSYNC capable X server.
I just prefer the seperation of audio and video servers myself.
MAS does come with a standalone server.
