[nas] Configuring NAS and libaudiooss

hi janyne --

i guess i misunderstood your problem before. sorry about that.

let me rephrase the problem, now that we have more information.

you're using an HMX X-terminal, and trying to get sound from a linux
box. after setting AUDIOSERVER (or not, since i guess DISPLAY will
be used if AUDIOSERVER isn't set) the nas client programs like auplay
work, and you get sound on the HMX.

you're trying to use libaudiooss, and that's not working.

i'm not sure i can help much more, except to note that it certainly
shouldn't matter whether or not the linux machine has a sound card
in it. (though, come to think of it, i guess i've never used libaudiooss
on such a machine.)

you also mentioned trying to use somehting called "midi synth" with
libaudiooss -- i'd be careful with this, since i'm not sure libaudiooss
will work with programs which try and open the midi device. it's
main role is for programs that use /dev/audio and/or /dev/dsp, which
are the PCM devices. (it also supports /dev/mixer.)
