[nas] current state of NAS over latest distro's

I've been meaning to ask the list lately now that I'm getting a new central CentOS system up online..

To some degree, I'd like to use it for some dev tasks from remote Xterms (I have some Explora450's -- don't laugh?) that would work fine..

The question becomes, how does NAS plug in these days to something like RHEL6 and GNOME in all it's glory?
(I'm using CentOS 6 which is RHEL based.)
