excellent -- i was pretty sure you'd done a bunch of work on this, and
was hoping this would be the answer.  now i need to be sure i'm actually
running the latest development release (and not whatever came with the
last debian upgrade -- i guess i'd better stop upgrading nas) and i need
to be sure the other app (in this case lircd, using the alsa_audio driver
for IR detection) isn't opening more than it should be.
