 	Depends on what you were trying to play...

 	Basically, auplay will play .au files from stdin, due to luck.  It 
would need to be modified in order to allow the user to specify ahead of 
time what data was about to be played...  That's what causes the problem - 
the texhnique used to determine what type of data is to be played.
