 	Sounds like a half-duplex device.

 	No, /dev/dsp1 would be used for recording (microphone, etc). 
/dev/dps is the one you should use.

 	So, with the server running as above (which looks ok), what 
happens if you do:

 	export AUDIOSERVER=:0
 	auplay <some wav file>

 	?
